THE HISTORY OF "FRANCES" DESCRIPTION: 1 932 15% foot Philippine Mahogany Chris Craft Runabout with, 50 HP Hercules Engine In 1932 the boat was purchased as a wedding gift for a young couple. (Names unknown) The couple was extremely excited about receiving such an extravagant gift they went to see the boat. The groom, being known as the "cocky" type, climbed aboard the boat in the bow and began to "play around" with the controls. The bride had also boarded the boat and was standing in the stern. Suddenly, the boat lurched forward causing the bride to lose her balance and fall overboard. The groom panicked and threw the boat into reverse and unknowingly ran over his bride, killing her. After the accident, the boat was believed to be hexed and immediately put into storage. In 1933 the boat was purchased by Mr. Floyd Ryerse, of Angola, New York. Not believing in hexes, Mr. Ryerse named the boat "Frances" after his lovely wife. "Frances" proved to be a loyal companion and was used to "run about" by generations of the Ryerse family for sixty years. "Frances" withstood the wear and tear of sixty years fairly well, with only a few minor alterations. In 1993 "Frances" was sold to the present owner, Mr. Lee Weber, of Angola, N.Y. Not knowing what to do with "Frances" he stored her in his garage for two years. Over chat two year period he had heard several people talking about Antique Boat Shows. It was suggested chat Lee enter ""Frances" in these shows. In August of 1995 "Frances" entered the first boat show. WHAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE! The winter of 1995 and early spring of 1996 were very busy for Lee. His time was totally devoted to "Frances", sanding, refinishing, tuning up the engine and having the seats redone. " Frances" has entered several other boat shows, each one becoming a new learning experience. "Frances" is a joy to own and has proven to be just as loyal to Lee as she was with the Ryerse family. o you believe in hexes?
