1939 Chris Craft 17 Deluxe Utility/Sportsman with tandem trailer for sale. In 2014 when I bought it ,the boat needed a new bottom and a cleanup and re-varnish. Hull is all original pre-war Philipine mahogany. Not one mahogany board above the waterline needed replacement. I believe all hardware is original. The previous owner owned had stored it indoors during his many decades ownership. All frames, keel, stem ,transom, deck and topsides original. The Original 6 Cylinder K engine needed a carb job,an ignition points cleanup,a fuel pump rebuild,a new alternator. Compression tested good. After above repairs motor fired right up. BOAT LOCATED IN CANADA 1 HOUR FROM DETROIT MICH. Work done -Hardware stripped and cleaned -Original 6 Cylinder K Motor pulled, repaired ,cleaned and painted. -Boat flipped (see my YOUTUBE video “FLIPPING Our 1939 Chris Craft Utility “ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRpYuOEYEOo ) - Existing plywood bottom stripped and new 'No Soak' West Epoxy Bottom installed and painted. First layer of 3/16 th inch marine plywood nailed and glued to frames with 3M 5200. Second and third layer 3/16th inch marine plywood attached with West Epoxy with West 403 Adhesive filler. Finished with 2 coats of clear West Epoxy and 2 coats of Epifanes forest green polyurethane paint. -Boat flipped upright, all varnish stripped. -Rout and clean deck seams and fill with white sikaflex caulking. -Chris craft mahogany stain and sealer followed by 6 coats of Epifanes Clear varnish. -Interior bilge painted burgundy alkyd paint. -Interior floor decking painted light green. (Interior floor decking sheathed in a rubber like vinyl material with pebble finish..looks like original factory glued on) -Complete rewiring. -Re-bed stuffing box, rudder housing, skeg, all thru-hulls. -Re-pack rudder gland and stuffing box. -New motor mount bolts -Re-install engine. -Re-fasten all mahogany ceiling, hardware, seats, -Cutwater machined and bedded and refastened. -New windshield glass -New vinyl upholstery. -Trailer rewire/new lights/paint. Repack hubs/replace as needed. PERFORMANCE Starts good, sounds good, power good. speed excellent, tranny good, steering good, gauges all work except the tachometer .
