I bought this 1967 Century Sabre Gull Wing in 2008. I knew it was a rare boat and not many were made and there we only a few left. I was mesmerized by how beautiful the boat was but did not have any real understanding of the things wood boats need as far as maintenance. It is a great boat and won several awards at the Lake Tahoe wooden boat show. But it was too much for me to manage. It was heavier than I expected and difficult to maneuver in and out of boat slips because of the airplane throttle. I had it on the lake three times. I was terrified I was going to scratch the wood. So as much as I like it the boat stressed me out. It ran great and everything worked. The bottom took on water and I considered the fiberglass bottom but was told it would impact the value and was on the fence, so it sat inside at my boat mechanic's shop for the next three years. in 2012 I moved from the SF Bay Area to Las Vegas for work. About 6 years ago, Leland, the mechanic, told me he was selling his business and the boat needed to be moved. I had him tow it to a friend’s property. My friend is now expanding her business and needs the room, so I have to find a home for the Gull. I moved to Kentucky last year and fractured my lower back, so I have to use a walker to get around, until I have back surgery in May. I am unable to drive because of medication I take, so towing the boat back to Kentucky is not practical or safe. The current condition: Clear Title – Never been in salt water. No visible dry rot and the stringers are in good condition, and may need some clips. All the hardware and parts are original, working, and still on the boat. The fixture for the rear view mirror is intact but it is missing the mirror glass. The gull wings open without issue. The gauges are all original and worked when it was stored. The wiring is in good condition.-it had a new Interceptor engine 250 hp when I purchased it and I put less than 7 hours on it. It ran beautifully last time I took it out on the lake. The bones are very good on this boat. The interior is in okay condition, no cracks, or tears but it needs good cleaning. There was no water in the engine and no standing water in the engine compartment. The boat was covered well and completely buttoned up until a few weeks ago. Structurally, the boat is in excellent condition. The bottom is original and has been scrapped. It needs new rope caulking, a few clips, and bottom paint, but if I was going to keep it, I would have a 5200 bottom . The sides need to be sanded and varnished. The fiberglass and vinyl are in reasonable shape but need good cleaning. It has an Interceptor engine 250 hp. 1987 Sonny double axel trailer, it needs new tires and cleaned up but otherwise, it is in good condition with light surface rust. I will pay to have the tires replaced and bearings lubed and greased so it is more than road worthy. I have reasonable prices to ship the boat as far as Chicago from transportation companies.” The quotes I got ranged from $1800.-$3500.
